Heavy Weight

Wrapped up the weekend with this square fondant cake.
Its humid in Iowa, so fondant can be a curse and a blessing at the same time.
Fondant keeps the cake intact, but is flimsy and sticky to the touch, leaving fine detail work tricky.
This cake goes down as THE heaviest we have ever lifted. The base is carrot and next layer up is Red Velvet, then chocolate, then white.

Rhinestones Please!

It starts with simple black fondant flower cut-outs to dry overnight.
Placement is everything,.......... balance and flow.

Owner: "No" to rhinestones. "Someone might chip tooth, end of story."
Bride: "Yes" to rhinestones. "But I want them on the cake"
Owner: "Well.......I'll tell the caterer to remove all flowers before cutting. Alright....do you have the rhinestones?"
Bride: "Yes, I have a whole vile left"
Owner: "Bring'em"


Rhinestones please........drum roll.......

Bride was right. Rhinestones made this cake step out with serious style.

The new bombshell at the bakery is the carrot cake.
We've got a killer new recipe and we love it.
Employees have been caught red handed shoveling in cake tops (yes, shoveling) and scraps.
Even the mixer seems smitten...... perhaps glowing.
